Solar Power Products Factory Opens on Kinmen

Solar Power Products Factory Opens on Kinmen

A Taipei based Solar Home Power Plant kit maker inaugurated a manufacturing plant on Kinmen

in November 2008, becoming the first high-tech Taiwan company to set up a factory on one of the country's outlying islands.

The formal opening of the SolarGate Technology Corp. factory in Kinsha township was attended by several Kinmen local officials, including county council Deputy Speaker Hsu Yu chao and county

Director of Development Lee Tzeng-tsai. SolarGate Chairman Chuang Chin-pei said the company plans to use Kinmen, located closer to southeastern China than to Taiwan, as a springboard to the massive

Chinese market for home based solar power plants.

SolarGate hopes to develop Kinmen into Taiwan's first "solar power model island," Chuang added.

SolarGate provides international trading services for solar power products and systems, including solar cells and solar glass.

The Kinmen factory will handle manufacturing and development, with raw material to be supplied by Taiwan proper.

The indications of this important for us is, the home based solar plants or kits will cost less in future with increasing competition. Making it more cost effective decision.

Eight (8) Year Solar Tax Credit Extension signed into Law.

Eight (8) Year Solar Tax Credit Extension signed into Law.

Today, by a vote of 263-171, the U.S. House of Representatives passed historic legislation that extends the 30-percent federal investment tax credit for both residential and commercial solar installations for 8 years.

This landmark legislation is part of H.R. 1424, the Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008, designed to address the U.S. financial crisis. It is the most significant federal policy ever enacted for the solar industry. President Bush has already signed the bill into law.

The solar tax credit provisions will:

· Extend for 8 years the 30-percent tax credit for both commercial and residential solar installations;

· Eliminate the $2,000 monetary cap for residential solar electric installations, creating a true 30-percent credit;

· Eliminate the prohibition on utilities from benefiting from the credit;

· Allow Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) filers, both businesses and families, to take the credit; and

· Authorize $800 million for clean energy bonds for renewable energy generating facilities, including solar.

Solar Power Generation for Agilent Santa Rosa Campus

Agilent Technologies installed and commissioned solar power generating system, with nearly 3,500 solar panels that track the sun.

Even through the clouds, it produces 200,000 watts of power. Ron Nersesian, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Wireless Business Unit confirmed.

The solar panels generating electrical power are mounted on a giant canopy over a 3-acre parking lot at Agilent's Fountaingrove campus in Santa Rosa.

At peak the system will generate more than 1 megawatt, or 15 percent to 20 percent of Agilent's required energy at the campus.

The system is built by SunPower Corp. of San Jose and is owned by GE Energy Financial Services. Agilent will purchase the energy at a slight savings over PG&E rates.

This new solar power system is a great complement to Agilent Technologies existing sustainability programs using renewable energy.

National Solar Tour offers 'Economic Lifeline' to
safeguard families and businesses against
skyrocketing energy costs in shaky economy

The largest grassroots solar event in history kicks off this weekend
in 49 states, with up to 150,000 participants across the U.S.

Event Date: this Saturday, October 4 (in most locations)
Additional Details: www.NationalSolarTour.org

BOULDER - 10/2/08 - Record numbers of families and businesses looking to protect themselves against soaring energy costs and a volatile economy will find a sunny, new approach this weekend.

The 13th annual National Solar Tour kicks off in 49 states and nearly 3,000 communities across the U.S., showing participants how to go solar and harvest free energy from the sun while saving money on monthly utility bills. The National Solar Tour features property-owners who open their doors to neighbors to share how they are using the latest solar and energy efficient technologies as an 'economic lifeline' to safeguard against energy price spikes and a shaky economy.

As many as 150,000 participants are expected this year, making this the largest grassroots solar event in history. This event is coordinated nationally by the nonprofit American Solar Energy Society (ASES) in partnership with dozens of solar organizations.

"The National Solar Tour highlights how families and businesses are using solar energy to protect themselves against skyrocketing energy costs," said Neal Lurie, Director of Marketing for ASES. "Participants come in curious, but they leave convinced ready to go solar."

The National Solar Tour will take place on Saturday, October 4, 2008 in most locations in conjunction with National Solar Energy Awareness Month, which is October. Specific tour dates and times are at the official National Solar Tour listings webpage at: www.ases.org/SolarTour

Tour participants get candid answers to questions about solar energy as well as on energy bill savings, costs, incentives, installations, and lessons learned from thousands of property owners on the National Solar Tour, including personal insight from:

·    A 60-something Boston couple who tapped into renewable energy to 'Beat the Street' - instead of investing a chunk of their retirement savings in the stock market, they have invested in solar and are now seeing higher returns on their money than if they'd invested in Wall Street

·    A newlywed couple from Chicago who found a way to go solar in a condo - and they even used their wedding gift registry to help pay for the solar system

·    A 3rd generation oilman from Oklahoma who's now a champion of solar energy

·    A two-tour Iraqi war veteran disillusioned with fighting a war for oil who's now obtaining his PhD in physics to fight in the renewable revolution - the war for energy independence

·    An 80-something year old Arizona couple who added solar panels to their home - and their golf cart

In addition to helpful neighbor-to-neighbor discussions about solar energy -- and seeing the technology up close -- National Solar Tour participants receive the SOLAR TODAY Get Started 2009! guide with tips, information, and insight about solar water heating, photovoltaic electricity, residential wind power, ground-source heating and cooling, energy efficiency, and a list of 1650 energy system installers.

The National Solar Tour changes how Americans look at their energy choices.

According to survey results from last year's National Solar Tour, 76% of participants said they are definitely or very likely to invest in solar or energy efficient technology after the Tour, compared to less than 50% before the Tour. A stunning 74% of participants indicated that they had never visited a solar or green-built home prior to this event.  Last year's National Solar Tour attracted more than 115,000 people in 2,900 communities in 46 U.S. states.

ABOUT THE AMERICAN SOLAR ENERGY SOCIETY:

Cost effectiveness of Solar Power Generator for Home

Cost effectiveness of Solar Power Generator for Home

SolarCity's San Diego provides credit. But you learn the basics of the solar power generation first.

The bad news first: SolarCity would install the system at a cost of $138 a month for 15 years, and the amount would increase 3.5 percent each year. Also, the customer would still receive a bill from San Diego Gas & Electric Co.

Then came the benefits: The 6.8-kilowatt system would save the Taits $178 a month on their SDG&E bill. Since energy costs increase by about 5 percent a year, the amount they would save each month should slowly increase. The company handles processing and permit fees, and wouldn't charge anything to install or maintain the system for the duration of the lease.

If you are leaving in San Diego, it is great news to you:

BE ECO WISE and BE FIRST TO TAKE THESE OFFERS ; FIRST LEARN BASICS OF THE SYSTEM AND EDUCATE YOURSELF WHAT TO LOOK FOR.

Wrong Page Are You Looking for Solar Water Pumps?

Now you can lease the solar system in San Deigo

Energy- and money-saving idea avoids the large upfront costs of buying one in San Deigo

That was in early 2006, after solar-enabling energy bills brought instituting subsidies, a state rebate and a federal tax credit. The cost was still too much for Tait. Tait explains how he discovered the secret of having the solar panel on lease purchase for 15 years.

“I'm a working person,” he said. Solar power “has to make economic sense. It's good for the environment, and I feel good about that. But the system has to work financially and in the 'green' sense.”

So Tait, 59, tried to make his home more energy-efficient in other ways. He took out a home-equity loan to replace his windows and upgrade his heating and cooling system.

Now, however, Tait has a new solar system on his house, and he hasn't paid anything upfront for it. Instead, he's leasing the system by making monthly payments. It is part of an emerging trend in the industry that could make solar power more attractive to homeowners.

Tait learned about the program on a postcard. It described “a solution I didn't know I was looking for,” promising that he could “install solar for $0 down” and “save from day one.”

“I'm not a person to take a deal without researching the deal a little bit,” Tait said. “But it did pique my interest.”

Solar panels and carbon foot prints earns turf

School helps reduce carbon print – carbon cops

Extract of News item in Sydney Morning Herald

Most students were involved in the eisteddfod but day-to-day, the responsibility for keeping the school environmentally friendly falls on the shoulders of eight year 5 children. Dressed in fluorescent vests, they hold the highly-coveted position of carbon cop.

"The carbon cops run around at the start of recess and lunch and at the end of the school day, switching off lights and non-core appliances," Goh says.

"It's changed the way the whole school thinks about energy usage and a lot of kids tell us they're turning off the lights at home as well."

The school has solar panels and four large rainwater tanks that are used to run the toilet block and irrigate the precious grass. But while boy is pleased the school is reducing its carbon footprint, he says education is the most important thing.

Backup Power OPTIONS - Buy at Alternative Energy Store

"Rather than just putting them down and saying, 'Hey look, we've got solar panels,' we're actually teaching what that means," he says. "The sustainable infrastructure at this school isn't just here to save water and power. It's here to set an example for the local community and to raise a generation of kids who know how to do the right thing."

Feature of solar pojects rests with LIPA

The future of solar energy home projects lies with decision by LIPA.

Extract of article by MARK HARRINGTON September 23, 2008 for News day com

As it marks a decade of existence, the Long Island Power Authority faces a sobering reality: Its costly past is crimping its future ambitions.

A mammoth $6.6-billion debt load, due in large part to the mothballed Shoreham nuclear power plant, and lots of expensive, long-term energy contracts are forcing LIPA to sharpen its pencil as it ponders new projects such as overhauling dirty old power plants and fostering renewable energy. Just this January, LIPA quietly cut the subsidy it offers for home solar panels.

Stan Fostek, an East Northport resident who installed a solar system with LIPA's help two years ago, grins as he talks about monthly electric bills as low as $3, down from a high of $450. "I don't know why more people don't do it," he said.

One reason, in addition to the high cost: Mass residential conversions to solar would reduce LIPA revenue. Were that to happen, the authority would be forced to increase rates to pay the long-term debt and the costs tied to its myriad energy-supply contracts, which aren't going away soon.

Some experts argue LIPA's strategy of continually planning for increased use is flawed, particularly in light of stabilizing electric use, expensive new conservation measures and a sharp drop-off from the go-go housing development of recent years.

But buried in the same survey was a surprising statistic: energy consumption per household actually decreased in 2006, as did a measure of energy use among businesses. Figures for 2007 show a slight increase.

Pennsylvania owned by FPL Energy. (FPL Energy also was to build the shelved wind-farm project).

Renewable Energy Tax Credits Extended

Renewable Energy Tax Credits Extended

Package to extend $17 billion to $18 billion in tax credits to increase investment in the renewable energy industry is approved by Senate.

The energy legislation now extends for eight years, through 2016. The investment tax credits for the solar power industry and for homeowners who install solar and wind equipment are now extended.

This ensures the hobbyist will continue to have their own home projects of renewable energy.
A solar panel and wind mill generator, in combination give a great alternative for the grid power. Also you will be able to earn than spend when you export power on the grid.

The bill passage benefits solar power companies and also the companies make the solar and wind power equipment. The competitive environment will reduce your capital cost if you embark on your own solar and wind electricity generation equipment for home projects.

The oil industry would pay higher taxes to cover the costs of the tax breaks.

Solar and Wind power for Eco-Friendly Society and City

Solar and Wind power for Eco-Friendly Society and City

Extract of a winning article by student for Independent, UK

China plans to spend 78% more on emission reduction in order to meet its 2010 targets. By closing inefficient coal-fired power units and steel plants, China will spend 9 million Yuan to become more energy efficient country. By 2020 China wants 15% of its power to come from renewable energy sources.

We hear a lot nowadays about 'being green', 'energy efficiency', and 'carbon footprints', all phrases that were sounded like scientific nonsense. Today all of us around the world are doing their best to help the environment. Call it a world wide wake up call. The techncology is available and made it simple enough to get a wind and solar power generation system installed at your home as a hobby project.

Possible by new technology advances in energy saving products. Solar power is a major part of China's plan for environmental success. China is he world’s biggest consumer of solar energy and the largest producer of solar water heaters. Sunny climate has a potential solar energy reserve amounting to 1,700 billion tons of coal. That's a lot of smoke one will save to be Eco Friendly.

Even the Olympic games were using solar energy this year. Li Zhonghai, senior official with the China Association for Standardization and member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), proudly stated "80% of streetlights at the Olympic venue were using solar power, and 90% of water heating at the event utilized solar energy".

China’s majority of future “Green Energy” or “Renewable Energy” will be using hydro-power. The world's biggest dam built in China smashing ten world records in 2006. Thousands of people had to relocate to give way for 'The Three Gorges Dam'. The world's biggest man-made producer of electricity from renewable energy, and undoubtedly the key China needs to unlock its hydro-power potential.

'Eco-city' in other words, 'Dongtan' is the brainchild of Shanghai Industrial Investment Corporation and 'Arup'. They envisage, "The world's first eco-city, which will be sustainable not just environmentally, but also socially, economically and culturally. It will be located on the third largest island in China, and will be responsible for producing its own energy, through wind, solar energy, bio-fuel and 'recycled city waste' ".

The technology will make it work and provide an environmental model for the rest of the world to follow. What does any of this have to do with technology and engineering? One of the main criteria for any new product, any new building, or any new piece of technology is that it must be green. It must be a renewable source. It must protect the environment.

It is not enough for us to simply use coal or oil to generate power; something all countries are still adjusting to, having been consumer of coal over the past few decades. The new ways of harvesting renewable energy, and the technological breakthroughs and its implementation is must.

Renewable Solar Energy

The Sun is only source of energy for earth for so many years. The energy obtained from the conventional sources was created in that form by nature. We use this energy for our day to day living requirement. The concept of renewable energy form was used by nature so long, however we did not keep the account of the energy available. We used these forms of energy and did not care for our future, leave sustaining of future generations to come.

The technology so far make it possible to use the sources, and now striving to optimize the conversion of these sources banked by nature. There are limits for this use, however efficient the equipment we design, there is always a loss of energy in form sound, vibrations, and radiations.

The technologist are developing processes for directly converting solar and wind energy to usable form of energy.

This strive is "Renewable Solar Energy"
